What to Look For

6-quart is the sweet spot for 1–4 people. 8-quart is overkill for most households and noticeably larger. 3-quart is too small for everyday family meals — it can't fit a whole chicken.

Get the Duo Plus over the cheaper Duo. The extra spend buys you a better interface, more presets, and a quieter pressure release. The base Duo is fine if you only pressure cook; the Plus is more pleasant to live with daily.

Skip the air-fryer combo unless you're replacing two appliances. The Duo Crisp adds air-frying via a swappable lid — useful only if you don't already own an air fryer. The basket capacity is small (~4 qt of useful space) and the lid swap is annoying for frequent switching.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Instant Pot Duo and Duo Plus?

Duo Plus has a clearer blue LCD, more cook programs (including sterilize, egg, cake), and a sound-mute option. The pressure-cooking and slow-cooking performance is identical. Spend up for the better interface and presets.

Can I use my Instant Pot as a slow cooker?

Yes, but it's not as good as a dedicated Crock-Pot. The Instant Pot's slow-cook function uses the same heating elements designed for high-pressure cooking, so the heat is intense from the bottom and gentler around the sides — which can scorch foods on long cooks. Use the "Less" temperature setting and stir occasionally.

Are Instant Pots safe?

Yes. Modern Instant Pots have 10+ safety features including pressure sensors, automatic shutoffs, and lid locks that prevent opening under pressure. The dramatic Crock-Pot scares of the 1970s aren't possible with current designs.
